The bread is soft and has a rich buttery flavor. The restaurant provides olive oil, vinegar, and butter, all of great quality. The pre-meal snack is a salmon crispy roll, which is appetising and tasty.
The staff was very friendly and provide a detailed introduction to the types and origins of the four different oysters. He also recommended us eating them clockwise from 12 o’clock for the best tasting experience. Every oyster is fresh and sweet, with a slight taste of seawater and a refreshing touch of lemon.
The Wellington steak is the signature dish of this restaurant, so I didn’t hesitate to pay an extra $198 for this main course. Overall, the taste did not disappoint. The golden crust was crispy and delicious, with mushroom puree and foie gras adding to the flavour. The texture of the beef was quite tender and the accompanying sauce was perfect.
The slow-roasted prime rib of beef is another signature dish of Mandarin Grill + Bar. The beef is cooked to medium-rare, with a rich and flavourful taste. The first few bites were satisfying, but towards the end, the meat became a bit tough, which was slightly disappointing. The Yorkshire pudding was average in both appearance and taste, a bit dry and ordinary.
This dessert was amazing, with the Japanese pear prepared using two methods – poached and roasted. Both methods bring out the natural sweetness and aroma of the pear. The cinnamon ice cream was smooth and creamy with a rich cinnamon flavour, topped with caramel and crunch for added texture. The dessert may not look extraordinary, but the taste was surprisingly delightful.
The Black Forest cake may seem simple and ordinary, but finding one that tastes exceptionally good can be quite challenging. The sweetness of the cake was just right, but the cake was a bit dry overall.
The staff also gave us some chocolate after the dessert. They were delicious and we really appreciated it.
